The Infinitely Deep Wealth, Wisdom, and Knowledge of God
Bryan DeWire
Consider the logic of this text by working backwards, starting with 36a. All things are from God. All things are through God. All things are to God. Everything from good and evil to wealth and poverty to life and death to health and sickness to peace and war are from God and through God and to God.
Therefore, no one has ever known the mind of the Lord, for it is unknowable. Furthermore, no one has ever counseled the Lord, for His purposes are unquestionable. Furthermore, no one has ever repaid the Lord, for He is “unpaybackable.” You cannot even the score by giving a gift to God. If He were ever hungry, He would not tell us, for all of the world and everything in it is His (Psalm 50:12). He gives to all men life and breath and everything, so it is not possible for mankind to serve him as if he needs anything (Acts 17:25).
Therefore, the wealth and wisdom and knowledge of God are infinitely deep. You cannot search God’s judgments. Furthermore, you cannot scrutinize God’s ways.
In response to this all-glorious God and to Him alone, we cry out, “To You be glory forever! No one else deserves it. You and You alone are infinitely deep in your wealth and wisdom and knowledge. Therefore, glorify Your name! Through Christ, Amen.”
