LET the elders managing/ruling well BE WORTHY of double honor,
especially (or chiefly, most of all for) the ones [continually] laboring in word and teaching;
ideaexplanation
For the scripture says, " An ox, while threshing, you will/shall not silence (muzzle)" (Deut. 25:4)
and " worthy [is] the worker of his wages." (Lk 10:7; cf. Matt 10:10)
negativepositive
ground
DO NOT RECEIVE! an accusation against an elder, if not out of " on two or three witnesses ." (Deut. 17:6; 19:15)
REPROVE/REBUKE the ones (ie, elders) [continually] sinning before all (the elders and presumably the congregation as well),
in order that even the rest (of the elders and presumably congregation) might have fear.
actionpurpose
I solemnly declare [what I've just said] before God, and Christ Jesus, and the elect angels,
in order that these [rules] you might keep without prejudice,
doing nothing according to favoritism.
[ Therefore ] DO NOT hastily LAY hands on anyone,
[Appointing an unqualified elder hastily would result in sharing in their sin, as it were.] AND DO NOT SHARE in sins of others;
[and thus] KEEP yourself pure (without defect).
DON'T DRINK WATER any longer (presumably in an ascetic fashion, following after the Dualists.)
but use a little wine on account of the stomach and your frequent illnesses.
actionmanner
actionresult
[ That further prompts me to draw a conclusion by way of an analogy about winedrinkers -- Oh, and use this rule of thumb to temper what I said about keeping yourself pure. ] The sins of some men are very evident, going before [them] to judgment;
but yet with some [men] they (ie, sins) follow [afterward];
alternative
Likewise also the good works [are] very evident,
and the [good works] being otherwise (ie, not evident) one cannot hide. (Lit. and the differently having [kind?], one is not able to hide.)
