Main point summary
Paul now answers the first question posed in vs 1: "Are we beginning to commend ourselves again?" No, he is not commending himself when he says that he is speaking the word of God as coming from God in the sight of God (2:17). His confidence is that God has made him adequate as a servant of the new covenant.

Such a confidence we have through Christ toward God.
Solche Zuversicht haben wir durch Christus zu Gott;
Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves,
denn wir sind nicht aus uns selber tüchtig, so daß wir uns etwas anrechnen dürften, als käme es aus uns selbst,
but a our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as a servants of a b new covenant,
sondern unsere Tüchtigkeit kommt von Gott, der uns auch tüchtig gemacht hat zu Dienern des neuen Bundes,
not of c the letter
nicht des Buchstabens,
but of the Spirit;
sondern des Geistes;
negativepositive
for the letter kills,
denn der Buchstabe tötet,
but d the Spirit gives life.
aber der Geist macht lebendig.

I am not sure if this is the right relationship. Does anyone have another suggestion?
