In Mt 3:11-12 John states that the Christ will bring blessing and judgment. Until this point in Jesus' ministry His works had brought blessing but no judgment.
Jesus’ answer contains quotes from Is 35:5 and Is 61:1. These verses reference blessings. However, these passages also contain references to coming judgment (Is 35:4 and Is 61:2).
