Main point [Jesus:] I will come to you and this is how--you will see me after death, find new life because I live, and know that you are caught up into the fellowship of God via the Father and I making our home in you through the Spirit. Questions What are the connections between seeing Jesus (though the world does not) + living because he lives + knowing that we are in Jesus who is in the Father? ANSWER: A progression of experience perhaps? After Jesus' death, the disciples first see him, which leads to them being given new life, which leads to God dwelling in them. Why does vs 21 seem to portray the Father's love for us as responsive to our love for Jesus when other passages clearly put God's love for us first? How does the second half of vs 24 fit with the rest. Why is Jesus explaining the nature of his words being from the Father here? ANSWER: Because this is why the love of the Father is contingent on obedience to Jesus' words. Insights Having Jesus' commandments is not sufficient evidence of our love for him. We must keep them in order to prove our love. What Jesus does when he loves us is show himself more and more to us. (There is no greater gift!)
