Now the birth of Jesus 1 Christ was as follows: when His a mother Mary had been 2 betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was b found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.
Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἡ γένεσις οὕτως ἦν.
Now the birth of u Jesus Christ 1 took place in this way. v When his mother Mary had been betrothed 2 to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child w from the Holy Spirit.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, 12 she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus:
μνηστευθείσης τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Μαρίας τῷ Ἰωσήφ, πρὶν ἢ συνελθεῖν αὐτοὺς
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together,
εὑρέθη ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχουσα ἐκ πνεύματος ἁγίου.
she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.

Ἰωσὴφ δὲ ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς,
And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling x to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
Because Joseph, her husband to be, 13 was a righteous man, and because he did not want to disgrace her, he intended to divorce her 14 privately.
Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yetdid not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

being righteous and not wishing to make an example of her,
