Μὴ ταρασσέσθω ὑμῶν ἡ καρδία•
d “Let not your hearts be troubled.
πιστεύετε εἰς τὸν θεὸν
e Believe in God; 1
καὶ εἰς ἐμὲ πιστεύετε.
believe also in me.
ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ τοῦ πατρός μου μοναὶ πολλαί εἰσιν•
In f my Father’s house are many rooms.
εἰ δὲ μή,
If it were not so,
εἶπον ἂν ὑμῖν ὅτι
would I have told you that
g I go
ἑτοιμάσαι τόπον ὑμῖν;
to prepare a place for you? 1
καὶ ἐὰν πορευθῶ
And if I go
καὶ ἑτοιμάσω τόπον ὑμῖν,
and prepare a place for you,
πάλιν ἔρχομαι
I will come again
καὶ παραλήμψομαι ὑμᾶς πρὸς ἐμαυτόν,
and will take you h to myself,
ἵνα ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ καὶ ὑμεῖς ἦτε.
that i where I am you may be also.
καὶ ὅπου [ἐγὼ] ὑπάγω
And where I am going
οἴδατε τὴν ὁδόν.
you know the way.” 1
Λέγει αὐτῷ Θωμᾶς•
j Thomas said to him,
κύριε, οὐκ οἴδαμεν ποῦ ὑπάγεις•
“Lord, k we do not know where you are going.
πῶς δυνάμεθα τὴν ὁδὸν εἰδέναι;
How can we know the way?”
λέγει αὐτῷ [ὁ] Ἰησοῦς•
Jesus said to him,
ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ὁδὸς καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια καὶ ἡ ζωή•
“I am l the way, and m the truth, and n the life.
οὐδεὶς ἔρχεται πρὸς τὸν πατέρα εἰ μὴ διʼ ἐμοῦ.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
εἰ ἐγνώκατέ με,
o If you had known me,
καὶ τὸν πατέρα μου γνώσεσθε.
you would have p known my Father also. 1
καὶ ἀπʼ ἄρτι γινώσκετε αὐτὸν
From now on you do know him
καὶ ἑωράκατε αὐτόν.
and q have seen him.”
Λέγει αὐτῷ Φίλιππος• κύριε, δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν πατέρα, καὶ ἀρκεῖ ἡμῖν.
r Philip said to him, “Lord, s show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς•
Jesus said to him,
τοσούτῳ χρόνῳ μεθʼ ὑμῶν εἰμι
“Have I been with you so long,
καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωκάς με, Φίλιππε;
and you still do not know me, Philip?
ὁ ἑωρακὼς ἐμὲ ἑώρακεν τὸν πατέρα•
t Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
πῶς σὺ λέγεις• δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν πατέρα;
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
οὐ πιστεύεις ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ πατρὶ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοί ἐστιν;
Do you not believe that u I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
τὰ ῥήματα ἃ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἀπʼ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐ λαλῶ,
The words that I say to you v I do not speak on my own authority,
ὁ δὲ πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοὶ μένων ποιεῖ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ.
but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
πιστεύετέ μοι ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ πατρὶ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοί•
Believe me that u I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
εἰ δὲ μή, διὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτὰ πιστεύετε.
or else w believe on account of the works themselves.
