1:1-2
Greeting. Grace and peace.
1:3-14
Blessed be God who has Triunely blessed us with every spiritual blessing (Father [4-6], Son [7-12], Holy Spirit [13-14])
1:15-23
Therefore (seeing that God has been so gracious to you), I do not cease to give thanks for you (15)- namely, praying that the Father might give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him (17)- that 1) the eyes of your heart might be enlightened (18a), so that you might know a) what is the hope of your calling (18b), and b) what is the wealth of his glory in the saints (18c), and c) what is the superabounding greatness of his power toward us who are beliving (19)
inference
2:1-10
1. One of those blessings is, although you were dead, He made you alive in Christ Jesus- and by grace you have been saved!
2:11-22
2. Another of those blessings is that though you were once far off you have been brought near in Christ because of the cross and are therefore no longer strangers and aliens but fell0w saints and members of the household of God
ideaexplanation
3:1-13
Because of what God has done for you in Christ and who you now are in Christ, I bow my knees before the Father (vv. 14-19), but before I do, in thinking about you Gentiles being brought near, I cannot help but remember the gospel God commissed me to preach (namely that the Gentiles are fellow heirs) and remind you of it.
3:14-19
Therefore I pray that God may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith in order that you might be able to comprehend the incomprehensible love of Christ,
3:20-21
because God is able to do infinitely beyond all that we ask or think
ground
4:1-16
I therefore urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you've been called- keeping to unity, because to each of us grace has been given
4:17-24
To explain further: don't walk as the Gentiles do in the futility of their minds, but walk as you learned Christ and were taught in him to put off the old self and put on the new
4:25-4:32
Now because you have put off the old self, therefore, speak the truth, don't be sinfully angry, give no opportunity for the devil, don't steal (but labor), don't speak rottenly (but graciously and edifyingly), don't grieve the Holy Spirit, don't be bitter or wrathful (but kind, compassionate, and gracious, as God in Christ was gracious to us)
5:1-2
in other words, to summarize, be imitators of God as beloved brethren and walk in love as Christ loved you and gave himself for you
5:3-14
do this by walking in the light because, though you were once darkness, you are now children of light
5:15-21
do this also by looking carefully how you walk (not unwise, but wise; redeeming the time; not as foolish, but understanding what the Lord's will is; not getting drunk with wine, but being filled by the Spirit)
5:22-6:9
more specifically, (bringing this walk into your household relationships) wives submit to your husbands as to the Lord, husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church, children obey your parents, fathers disciple your children, slaves obey your earthly masters, master stop threatening your slaves, knowing that you both have the same impartial Master

6:10-20
Finally, in light of the cosmic realities which God has and is bringing about through you the Church in Christ (3:10; 1:20-23, 10), be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might by putting on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the devil and the cosmic forces of darkness; and stand by putting on every peice of the armor of God through prayer
6:21-24
Final Announcements and Greeting: I'm sending Tychichus so that you'll know how I'm doing and that he might encourage your hearts. Peace and love with faith and grace.
