Explanation
of David.
Now these are the generations
of Perez:
Perez fathered Hezron,
Hezron fathered Ram,
Ram fathered Amminadab,
Amminadab fathered Nahshon,
Nahshon fathered Salmon,
Salmon fathered Boaz,
Boaz fathered Obed,
Obed fathered Jesse,
and Jesse fathered David.
I'm not sure if this should be coordinate with 14c, or with 14d.
There is a distinction between Manner and Means (see Step 8.2).
This is like a relative phrase, so I've chosen the same relationship label.
"Give birth to" is a phrasal verb.
Destination is another possibility.

Notes
Head: The emphasis on a son being born "to Naomi " (17e) shows that this story is about God being faithful to Naomi . See Ruth 1:9 and 1:20-21, how God answered Naomi's prayer and showed his faithfulness to her. Heart: The one whose name should "be renowned" (14g) is Ruth's son, as is made clear by 15. Is he not a picture of Christ, the greater son of Ruth? His name will be renowned globally , as Psalm 72:12-15 says, for his rescue of the poor (like Boaz and his son!). Should we not seek to spread his fame? Hands: Ruth's bearing of a son was a direct result of the Lord's giving her conception (13f). The narrator, in an almost offhand way, explains that Obed was David's grandfather (17g-j), and emphasizes the point in 18-22. How did God bring about the marriage of Boaz and Ruth, from whom would come David and a greater David? By working in the background . So shouldn't we trust in God, even though he is in the background of our lives? Trust in his proven character as a defender of the widows, as a lifter-up of the weak and needy. See Hannah's prayer of rejoicing (another previously barren woman!) in 1 Samuel 2:1-10.
