This seems like the mystery of the gospel and not ONLY the mystery of the Gentiles coming in? I see the mystery of the Gentiles in Ephesians 3:4-5, but I see the mystery of the gospel and new covenant itself in Ephesians 1 and Colossians 1 and 2. Specifically 1 Peter 1:10-12 seems to fit this context best. The GOSPEL itself came through the revelation of the mystery of HOW God was going to save people from their sins. This came through apostolic teaching and the teaching of Jesus.
BDAG: To cause to be inwardly firm or committed
The gospel is all over the Old Testament and specifically clear in the prophets like Isaiah. Once Jesus died and the gospel became clear, the Old Testament exploded with Jesus! He was always there, but hidden or veiled. Now, we use the Old Testament to SEE the gospel. Phillip and the Ethiopian Eunuch.
ALL OF THIS....the whole of redemption, the apostolic teaching, the Old Testament prophecy, the incarnation, the cross, the resurrection, ...ALL of it came about at the command of God the Father through Jesus! He is the AGENT and the GROUND of the gospel.
