Notes
7:1 God's Plan Prevails Jesus gave His life. It was not taken from Him. No matter how much the Jewish leaders tried, the events in Jesus's life unfolded according to God's plan. 7:2-5 Judge Righteously Jesus's natural brothers told Him to go to Jerusalem to show Himself. People are in general way to quick to speak. The brothers had judged that Jesus was unable to perceive that a person needs to show himself in order to be known. The brothers should have started to listen first by asking questions like: "Why are we in Galilee for this period of time?", "Why do you want to remain in Galilee?", "When do you want to be in Jerusalem?", "Do you want to be a known person?" or "Do you want to show yourself to the world?" 7:6-9 Live for God Jesus's response was that His time did not come to go to the feast in Jerusalem yet. Jesus had God's purposes and timing fixed on His mind. Even the closest family member could not move Him from what His heavenly Father had given Him to do. The reference to time is not only in regard to when Jesus would travel to Jerusalem but also to the time of His death. When the time came, the Jewish leaders took and delivered Him to the Romans to be crucified that God's plan was accomplished as prophesied centuries before. He paid the penalty of morally corrupt people to bring them into the right relationship with God. It is His death and resurrection that brings eternal life to people, just as in the natural sense wine brings life to a wedding or healing and feeding life to those in need. Devotional Be careful with quick judgments. Be a listener and ask questions first. The Lord Jesus wants you to judge righteously. Fix your mind on eternal matters! Wake up from your sleep and put away anything that hinders your walk with the Lord. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:18 ESV) I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. (John 8:37 ESV) but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. (John 8:40 ESV) So from that day on they made plans to put him to death. (John 11:53 ESV)
Jesus went to the Passover feast in 5:1 - After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. (John 5:1 ESV)
“Speak to the people of Israel, saying, On the fifteenth day of this seventh month and for seven days is the Feast of Booths to the Lord. (Leviticus 23:34 ESV)
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” (John 14:22 ESV) Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret. (John 18:20 ESV)
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. (John 15:18 ESV) If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. (John 15:24 ESV)
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. (John 3:19 ESV) And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, (Colossians 1:21 ESV) We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous. (1 John 3:12 ESV)
And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” (John 2:4 ESV)

Jesus is not going to the feast because his time was not come. The hate of the people for him was not the reason why he didn't go because he went later.
