Vs. 17-20 False Teachers Peter describes the people who cause divisions and offenses to a greater extent in 2 Peter 2. These people claim to be Christians and are received in local gatherings. Their motivation is their own advancement at the cost of undiscerning people. They are the responsible that the name of our Lord Jesus is dragged into the dirt. They are not motivated by the beauty and glory of God which motivates a true follower to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. So they usually aim at money, power, and reputation and often succeed because of their high intelligence and charisma. Someone who serves the Lord Jesus Christ is not afraid of money, power, and reputation, but is also not controlled by those things. Be careful if someone on TV claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ and asks for your money to upgrade to a new 50 million dollar airplane! Politicians can claim to be Christians as a drawing card to get elected in countries where there is still a sympathy toward Christians. The main actor is Satan behind those people that cause divisions and offenses. Soon will God deal with Satan and establish His peace to His people for all eternity. Vs. 21-24 Teamwork Paul worked as part of a team. Tertius pent the words Paul spoke by the Holy Spirit, and Gaius was the host not only of Paul but the whole local church. Paul did not seek to be a loner in the work of the Good News of Christ, but as time went on and persecution increased, more and more fellow workers left him except a few faithful that were willing to also die for the cause of Christ. Vs. 25-27 Benediction Paul says "establish" because God has done it already positionally for us in Christ and it takes a tremendous amount of God's grace and obedience on our part to practically manifest the truth of the Gospel in our lives. False teachers do not regard that their time is short and their pleasures short-lived, but God had no beginning nor will He have an end because He is everlasting. They think themselves to be wise in their cunning schemes, but when it comes to wisdom, then there is non who even comes close to the wisdom of God. He is God who alone is wise and rightly deserves all glory through Jesus Christ forever.
