Notes
Peace with God The "peace with God" is not a subjective peace like the one in Phil 4:7: "peace of God". The peace with God rests solemnly on the justifying work of God in Jesus Christ. It removes the hostility between God and the believer. Access to God Without the peace in relation to God, we don't have access to Him. But once we have peace, we have access to come to Him with everything. We come into close relationship with Him, like with a best friend. We may share everything with Him and He always knows, and understands. Boasting in hope of the glory of God Justification by faith comes also as an often inexpressible joy to our hearts, then we boast in Christ because of what we have in Him and awaits us when we see Him face to face. This is the hope Paul speaks about. It is not a maybe, but a certainty waiting to be true in the future. God's promises are trustworthy and God is always faithful. Boasting in God through tribulation The same is true when we go through suffering. We keep boasting in our Lord Jesus Christ and we know that the result of our suffering is refined and strengthened hope in God. Boasting in God even in suffering is unnatural, but the reason for that reality is that the love of God has been poured out in our hearts. This has been done by God the Holy Spirit, who was given to us.
