Notes
It seems that some Jews were offended and believed that Paul was a traitor hating Jews. But Paul clarified and said that the opposite was true. He expressed his grief for his fellow countrymen who kept rejecting Christ. Romans 9:1-2 Paul uses persuasive language to convince that he speaks the truth concerning Christ and is burdened about something. He feels great sorrow and continual grief in his heart about the matter he will explain in verses 3-5. Romans 9:3-5 The reason for Paul's pain is that his countrymen in large reject Christ. It is painful to him because he loves them extremely. He explains the blessings God has brought them in to and also the greatest blessing Israel received which is that Christ came from them after the human lineage. Once Paul mentions Christ, he bursts out in praise. Christ is over all! He is the eternally blessed/happy God! Application It hurts terribly if people that are close choose to walk a wrong path. It is appropriate to feel that way, but then look to God and let His amazing attributes lift your heart above that circumstance.
