discourse
Notes
David Alaba is an Austrian-born soccer player that kicks for Munich in Germany. When I saw him on social media, I decided to follow him because he interests me as an exemplary person, an exceptional player, and as a player for a top soccer club. To follow him took me on simple click on a button. 2000 years ago, some people forsook everything to follow one man called Jesus of Nazareth and concluded that He was no ordinary man but was sent from God to take away the sin of the world. He would restore the broken relationship between God and men. verse 35-38: John the Baptist had the humility to let two of his disciples go. John was a man of integrity because he stood to his testimony of the truth even when it turned out to be to his disadvantage. verse 37: The two disciples spend a lot of time with John the Baptist and trusted him when he testified of Jesus. John's disciples believed that Jesus was the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world. Little did the two disciples know when they followed Jesus, of how much their lives and many lives thereafter were to change with Jesus's manifestation of His glorious person. verse 39: "Come and see" is Jesus invitation to give John and Andrew the opportunity to testify of who He is. "See for yourself whether John's and My claims are true." verse 43-49: Andrew and John had to "come and see" to learn about Jesus, but Jesus "saw" Nathanael under the fig tree before Philip called him. The direct answer to Nathanael's question of how Jesus knows him was that Jesus knows all things, He is all-knowing God. Philip's testimony of Jesus did not convince Nathanael, nevertheless, it was in his mind and when he met Jesus, he identified Him correctly as the Son of God, because He knew him without having met him before. Jesus described as: - Lamb of God - Messiah or Christ - Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph - Rabbi - Son of God - King of Israel - Son of Man Jesus identifies His disciples as: - Simon: Cephas- A Stone - Nathanael: An Israelite, in whom is no deceit
