Great disasters will happen before the powerful and glorious appearance of the Son of Man. Tribes will mourn; the elect will be gathered.

What tribulation does the Lord refer to in verse 29a? Taking Revelation into account, He speaks about the tribulation in verse 9 because what the Lord describes is part of the great tribulation i.e. The sixth seal: Rev 6:12-17. Why will the tribes of the earth mourn at His coming? Because it means judgement for them: Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” (Revelation 6:15-17 ESV)
