Notes
This passage reveals the outlook of two types of leaders. One is caring, blessing, and equipping those who follow and trust. The other is using them for themselves. Challenge: Are you a leader? What is your outlook? 7:45-46 No one ever could speak like this Man. He made super-natural claims, such as having rivers of water flow from those who believe in Him (7:38). An insane statement if facts do not match the meaning of those words (Acts 2:4). 7:47-49 Pharisees see themselves as a standard by which things must be judged. Their job was to lead the people, glorify God, and do what is good for them and the nation, but they abused their position for personal gain. 7:50-52 The Pharisees did not hesitate to attack one of their own on this matter. Nicodemus's fair response to the Pharisees' unjust judgment was shut down based on their ignorance. Jonah was actually out of Galilee. The truth and the law functionally didn't matter to the chief priests and Pharisees on this matter.
