At a particular moment in time(the day they heard of it), the Apostle and Timothy, began praying for the Colossians. They were also asking God that the Colossians would be filled (being filled to the exclusion of all else) with the knowledge of God for the purpose of the Colossians glorifying God. How was this glorifying of God to be carried out? By the Colossians walking in a manner worthy of the Lord for the purpose of pleasing Him. In what manner would this walking worthy of God manifest itself? By the Colossians bearing fruit, increasing in the knowledge of God, and by being strengthened with all power (this strengthening coming from God Himself according to His own power, not that of the Colossians) That whole action of walking is for the purpose of attaining steadfastness and patience, which results in joyously giving thanks to the Father because of His action of qualifying us for the purpose of sharing in the inheritance of the saints. This result was the reason the apostle was praying for them. All of the above was based upon the fact that God rescued us, by transferring us to the Son's kingdom on the basis of having forgiveness of sins through His redemption of us. (the word redemption indicates the paying of a price)
