Authentic devotion to God involves loving others and living holy. Pretending to follow God while living in deception is vanity!
Deception of the heart involves thinking. Even thinking about one's pursuit of God. Is the carelessness of our words revealing the deception in our heart? And is this deception concealing our hypocritical profession from our own eyes? It is surprising that our tongue could be the window which reveals the lies in our heart which distort our thinking about what it means to pursue God. An authentic pursuit of God, one which is without compromise, involves caring for the afflicted, the lowly, the downcast and the outcast rather than slandering them. We must watch our mouths, and in so doing we will be watching our lives. This exemplifies a pure religion, and oh what value it has before our Father. He has looked upon us with such mercy when we were poor and needy and without hope, without God in the world. He gave us the Word of His mouth. And that Word suffered for us, saved us from deception, and sanctifies us through and through. The Word of His mouth gives us pure religion!
Main point summary
Pretending to follow God while living in deception is vanity, because authentic devotion to God involves loving others and living holy.
James 1:26-27
If anyone thinks he is religious
Even If someone thinks he's following God
q and does not bridle his tongue
but does not watch his mouth
but deceives his heart,
and instead lives in deception,
this person’s r religion is worthless.
then that person's pursuit of God has zero value
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this:
Because, devotion that is blameless and without compromise before the Father God, is for example:
s to visit t orphans and widows in their affliction,
to care for the outcast and downcast in their suffering,
and u to keep oneself v unstained from the world.
and also to watch your life lest you begin to look like the world
Pretending to follow God while living in deception is worthless
Authentic devotion to God loves others and lives holy.
