Paul repeats what he said in verse 8, changing nothing, other than to say this time, "this is the gospel that you have already received and owned and taken hold of". Respond in such a way as to show that you cherish the true gospel. Don't waver and give way, but stand firm! How? As John Calvin writes, "...he enjoins them to regard as devils those who shall dare to bring forward a gospel different from his..." What does this look like? Paul gives an example of how he practiced this in 2:5 (cf. Acts 15:5): When the Pharisees ("false brothers") rose up to give their argument that it is necessary to be circumcised, Paul said that he and the apostles and elders did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you. When error arises, the best way to stamp it out is to not even give it the time of day. Weigh it with the truth, and trash it as "untruth" when it is proven incongruent with the full counsel of God. Whoever is teaching it, remove them from the pulpit, the Sunday School class, the Deaconship, etc. Don't give them another moment to trouble your souls. Principle: Establish in your heart what the gospel is. Settle the matter. Finalize it. Tie up the loose ends. If you leave a loose end hanging, the devil is sure to grab at it and pull you in the wrong direction. The Galatians yielded to the reasoning of the Judaizers because they were not convinced of Paul's teaching. One must not waver on truth, for he that wavers is like a wave of the sea, driven by the winds and tossed.
