Sometimes we tend to relax ourselves.We are aware that the time of the Lord is like a thief,like a pregnant unexpectedly come to her due season of childbirth,it is unexpected,and yet we do not mind the time and the means provided by the Lord for our growth,we are not being sober or aware of how sinful is the world and in the end we will find ourselves that we are like the world,slacking,sleeping and not prepared when that unexpected time of the Lord will come.But here in this text i am being reminded and encouraged,and i hope you too,that we tend to be awake,and be sober,that when the Lord come back again in his gloriousness ,He will find us faithfully awake and working for his glory.Encouraging our brothers and sisters in Christ and building each other up.

Observations: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 The audience here are believers There are figures of speech mentioned in this passage such as: - Awake and asleep - the day of the Lord will come "like a thief in the night." - a sudden destruction will come upon them "like labor pains on a pregnant woman. The call to stay awake and be sober,i think,is very vital in this passage. Quetions: What is the means to keep yourself awake according to verse 8? There is a mention of awake and asleep in v.11,is it a figure of speech too? What is the motivation to be sober according to verse 9? TAKE AWAYS: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 Commands: Let us not sleep but be sober.(v.6,8) Encourage and build one another.(v.11) Means: By putting on faith,love and hope(v.8).
