Main point summary
Faith, Hope, and Love are the utmost Christian virtues. We can learn, from the example of the Thessalonians, what it looks like to actively live these out: 1) Pursuing Joy in the midst of affliction—through the Word (work of faith). 2) Turning from idols, to God (steadfastness of hope). And 3) Serving God with our time on Earth (labor of love). All while remembering we can do these things by grace alone, through the power of the Holy Spirit—who convicts those loved by God, His chosen ones. Obediently pursuing these virtues will Glorify the name of God before outsiders, and encourage the Saints.

(Why we give thanks) because he chose you....we know because you received the word in mich affliction, with joy, resulting in your faith going out everywhere.
God loves us, therefore he chooses us.
Because the word of God comes in the power of the Holy Spirit and with full assurance.
Because you received the word with joy in affliction, you became an example to believers.
Believers everywhere. Because people have heard about your obedience and love for God, that you are serving him and waiting for him.
