Central Idea: Paul's prayers of thanksgiving for the Colossian believers are in response to Epaphras' testimony of their faith in Christ and their love for the saints, rooted in the hope of heaven. This faith and love is the fruit of the gospel that they originally heard from Epaphras. Explanations /Questions: v.6-7, The three comparative clauses, one following on another, are a little difficult to boil down to a simple 'A as B as C as D'. One key is tracing the pronoun 'it' in each clause, (only the first pronoun is explicit in the greek, the next two are implied). The thought flow centers on the gospel message: A = (v.5b-6a), they have heard of the hope of heaven through the gospel which has come to them. B= (v.6b), as it (the gospel) is bearing fruit throughout the world. C= (v.6c), as (the gospel does) in them from the day they first heard of God's grace D= (v.7a), as they learned (the gospel) from Epaphras Paul's encouragement to them is that their faith and love is the fruit of the gospel - that consistently bears this fruit in all the world - as it did in them from the beginning, consistent with Epaphras' own teaching. Cross-References: v.6-7 cf. 2:6-7; Paul again affirms the soundness of the teaching they first heard and calls them not to deviate from it.

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
when we pray for you,
temporal
since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.
Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you,
as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing--
as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth,
just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant.
He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf
and has made known to us your love in the Spirit.

Michael, I like your top-level relationship of R-Sit. My first stab, as well as that of most others I've looked at, have [statement]-Ground. Both work, but R-Sit draws us into the historical reality as opposed to the more rhetorical focus of Ground.
