1 Peter 4:12-19
Beloved, do not be surprised at z the fiery trial when it comes upon you
Do not be surprised at trials in your life
to test you,
which serve to refine you
as though something strange were happening to you.
because this is to be expected
a insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings,
to the extent that you share in Christ's suffereings
that you may also rejoice and be glad
so that you my rejoice
b when his glory is revealed.
when He returns in glory
c If you are insulted d for the name of Christ,
If you are insulted for being a Christian
you are blessed,
you are blessed
because the Spirit of glory 1 and of God rests upon you.
because the Holy Spirit is with you
But e let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or f as a meddler.
Christians should not suffer as evildoers (which is shameful)
Yet e if anyone suffers as a g Christian,
If you suffer as a Christan
let him not be ashamed,
this is not reason to be ashamed
but let him glorify God d in that name.
but rejoice in being associated with the name of Christ
For it is time for judgment h to begin at the household of God; and i if it begins with us,
For now Christians will experience suffering
what will be the outcome for those who j do not obey the gospel of God?
but the suffering at the final judgement will be ultimate for those who reject Christ
And k “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” 1
If our suffering seems severe, those who suffer outside of God's grace will not stand
Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will
For this reason, let those who suffer according to God's will
l entrust their souls to a faithful Creator
have faith in God who is faithful
while doing good.
while continuing to do good
