Q: What have these rich people done wrong?
#1 hoarding riches. The treasure is sitting there and is said to be corroding. The corroding idea is then transferred to the person. The corrosion (waste, loss of value) "eats up" the person who is hoarding - perhaps when it is realized that it's "the last days" Jesus - shows great mercy; more blessed to give than to receive. Mt 25:40
#2 not paying wages, cheating workers of what they have earned - worker is worth his wage 1 tim 5:18; lk 10:7 - unjust weights Prov 11:1; 20:23 - basic requirement of law in OT Deut 24:15
