Let your being in one body with other Christians be based on the example of Jesus, who being God humbled himself for the sake of others to the death on the cross.
Philippians 2:1-8
So if there is any encouragement in Christ,
If being in Christ gives you power,
any comfort from f love,
if the love of Christ gives you any comfort,
any g participation in the Spirit,
if you have the Spirit in you,
any h affection and sympathy,
if any godly affections are to be found in you,
i complete my joy
then make my happy
by being j of the same mind,
by striving after the same things,
having the same love,
by loving one another out of same motives,
being in full accord
by being in harmony with each other
and of one mind.
and having the mind transformed by the gospel.
Do nothing from k selfish ambition or l conceit,
Don't do anything for your own sake only,
but in m humility count others more significant than yourselves.
but rather see the interests of others as more important.
Let each of you n look not only to his own interests,
but also to the interests of others.
o Have this mind among yourselves,
which is yours in Christ Jesus, 1
p who, though he was in q the form of God,
did not count equality with God r a thing to be grasped,
but s emptied himself,
by taking the form of a t servant, 1
u being born in the likeness of men.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
by v becoming obedient to the point of death, w even death on a cross.
Paul writes to the church on how the church should live as one body. It has to be Christ-like. Such a life is only possible when each Christian forms his identity based on being in Christ. Being in Christ should give encouragement, comfort, and right affections to live in full accord with each other, having the same thoughts and striving after the same goals. Not selfish motivation, but deep love and concern for others should be driving one's actions. The best example of such a life is to be taken from Christ himself, how he humbled himself from being God to dying as a man on the cross, to serve the interest of humans - to save them from their sins.
