The heart of chapter one is vv 3-10. 1-2 is greeting. 11-12 is a prayer for a continuance in what the Thessalonian church is already doing, and for God's continued grace upon them. Analyzing this section we see that the logical main point is Paul's giving of thanks for and boasting around about the Thessalonians. He is able to do this because of their faith under pressure. In talking about this faith and persevernce, Paul defends the justice of God. It would be natural for some of the Thessalonicans to wonder if God is righteous in allowing his children to suffer so. In fact the suffering and the church's perserverance under it is a token - endigma - of God's righteousness. I believe Paul supports this in two ways (I've linked them as a series). God's "krisis" judgement uses the circumstance of the trial to prove them worthy of the Kingdom (v. 5). This encourages the Thessalonicans that their sufferings are not in vain, because they are proving their citizenship and making them fit for the kingdom. The second way it is a token of God's righteousness is that it vindicates God's future judgement of the unbelievers who are persectuing them (v. 6). God's judgement on them will be just in part because they have persecuted his children. This serves as an encouragement to the Thessalonians as well because they are reminded that God will finally judge those who oppose them, so they can continue to endure it with patience and joy.

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right,
because your faith is growing abundantly,
and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.
series
Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God
for your steadfastness and faith
in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring.
situationresponse
This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God,
that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering--
since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us,
when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,
inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God
and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
ideaexplanation
They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction,
away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
locative
when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints,
and to be marveled at among all who have believed,
actionmanner

and may fulfill every resolve for good
and every work of faith
by his power,
