Main point summary
God, who is infinite holy and just, must abandon [in anger] the impure and dishonourable, because they refuse to see and worship Him as their true pleasure, satisfaction and blessing.
Therefore s God gave them up
God abandoned the idol worshipers [in righteous anger]
in the lusts of their hearts
TO THE LUSTING of themselves and sinful desires (self-glorification/idolatry)
RESULTING in their becoming impure [unable to fellowship with God]
to t the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,
AND RESULTING in them dishonouring their bodies together
because they exchanged the truth about God for u a lie
FOR they [willingly] fooled themselves into believing in something other than God (and what they knew about God)
RESULTING in their worship
and served the creature
AND RESULTING in their service of created things (things they knew were created by God)
rather than the Creator,
INSTEAD of God
v who is blessed forever! Amen.
IN OTHER WORDS, they worshiped creatures (given up to the lusts of their hearts, having no right standing before God, being accursed/shamed) rather than the God who wants to bless and is the source of blessing.
how does giving into the lust of the heart lead to impurity (uncleanness)? 1) lies about God, 2) worships, and 3) serves other gods BUT impurity can be cleansed and rectified (OT understanding of impurity/uncleanness). God has not given them up to the point of no hope. There is hope.
Those who dishonour in the Bible are often cursed or put to shame. Whereas, those who are in God are blessed or made whole - shame has been removed/set free.
