Main point summary
Beware of false teachers, those who claim holiness, but oppose true godliness, for they will appear to be good, but their intentions are corrupted and disobedient, and they shall cause many difficulties for those easily swayed. Nevertheless, whatever success they seem to have achieved, it shall not last; their schemes are destined to fail.
2 Timothy 3:1-9
But understand this,
Hear my words,
that y in the last days
WHEN the last days come
there will come times of difficulty.
difficult times shall arise
For people will be z lovers of self,
BECAUSE people will fall in love with themselves
a lovers of money,
THEN to promote self, they will come to love money
THEN as they accumulate money, they will become self-concerned/self-pitying
THEN as they become more self-sustaining, they become egotistical and conceited
THEN in their conceit, they take advantage and harm those around them
b disobedient to their parents,
they EVEN harm those closest to them, like their parents
IN OTHER WORDS, they become ungrateful
THEN they become godless/irreverant
THEN not agreeable
THEN ill-speaking of others
WITHOUT/NOT WITH restraint
RESULTING in harming others
d not loving good,
THE OPPOSITE of doing what is acceptable to God
AND being back-stabbers
AND having no regard for others
e swollen with conceit,
AND being arrogant
f lovers of pleasure
AND following the lust of the flesh
rather than lovers of God,
NOT love for God
having the appearance of godliness,
ALTHOUGH, these people to be holy
but g denying its power.
they are without true belief/lovers of what the world offers and not what God offers
h Avoid such people.
THEREFORE, avoid these difficult people.
For among them are i those who creep into households
BECAUSE, these difficult people will sneak into homes
and capture weak women,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF entrapping defenseless women (who don't know better)
burdened with sins
IN OTHER WORDS, women who are overcome with their own guilt and shame
and led astray by various passions,
RESULTING in being easily manipulated to accept false doctrines
RESULTING in their continued learning
and never able to j arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
YET unable to perceive what is really the truth
Just as k Jannes and Jambres l opposed Moses,
FURTHERMORE, JUST LIKE the magicians who sought to contradict Moses
so these men also oppose the truth,
SO TOO are these difficult people who seek to refute what is true
m men corrupted in mind
IN OTHER WORDS, these men who are debased in their minds
and n disqualified regarding the faith.
AND disqualified in their hearts (by their disobedience showing no faith)
But they will not get very far,
NEVERTHELESS, they won't escape
for their folly will be plain to all,
BECAUSE the falsity of their teachings will be made out
o as was that of those two men.
JUST LIKE with the two false magicians
