Main point summary
Christ has set us free from the old self through His death. Therefore, we are called to live a new life, holy and pleasing to God. How? By the same means that raised Christ from the dead: through the life-giving, Spirit-driven, glorious power of God Himself.
What shall we say then?
What is the result of all that I have said?
m Are we to continue in sin
IN OTHER WORDS, do we keep sinning
that grace may abound?
IN ORDER THAT we might see more of God's grace?
By no means!
How can n we who died to sin still live in it?
BECAUSE, how can we who have put off the old self still continue to live in sin?
Do you not know that all of us o who have been baptized p into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
IN OTHER WORDS, when we were baptized as believers of Jesus Christ, we identified, in our baptism, with Him by dying to our old, sinful selves
We were q buried therefore with him
THEREFORE, we were buried with Christ
BY BEING baptized
WHICH SIGNIFIES our dying to the old self
in order that, just as r Christ was raised from the dead
FOR THE PURPOSE OF, BEING LIKENED to Christ who came back to life
by s the glory of the Father,
BY the resurrecting power and authority of God (Matt 16:27)
we too might walk in t newness of life.
SO TOO are we to walk as a new creation in the new self
