Main point summary
The true Christian servant is one marked by his mercy and willingness to forgive because, as a child of the Kingdom of Heaven, he has been affected by a deeper mercy and forgiveness from his King.
Again, [truly] I say to you
that if two of you might agree
on earth concerning all things,
which if they ask ,
it will be (given) to them
from my Father in heaven.
For where two or three have been gathered together
in my name,
there I am in their midst.
Then Peter came to him and said to him,
"Lord, how often will my brother sin against me,
καὶ ἀφήσω αὐτῷ;
and I am to forgive him?
Up to seven (times)?
Jesus said to him,
"I say to you
not until seven (times)
but until seventy-seven (times).
Because of this, the kingdom of heaven is similar to a human king, who desired to settle the account with his servants.
Now, when he began to settle (them),
one debtor of ten thousand talents was brought to him.
But because he did not have (enough)
in order to pay,
the master commanded him to be sold and his wife and his children and that he has,
and to be paid.
So, the servant fell and bowed down before him saying,
"Be patient with me,
and I will repay all to you."
Then, because he was compassionate,
the master of that same servant released him,
and he forgave the debt against him.
Then, when that same servant went out from (the master),
he found one of his fellow servants,
who owed him a hundred denarii,
and he seized and strangled him saying,
"Pay whatever you owe (me)."
Thus, the fellow servant fell down and begged him saying,
"Be patient with me,
and I will repay to you."
Now, he did not desire this,
and he went and threw him into prison
until he repaid what was owed.
Thus, when (other) fellow servants of his saw the things that happened,
they were greatly grieved,
and they went and reported to their master all the things that happened.
Then, his master summoned him
and said to him,
"wicked servant, I forgave you all that debt
because you begged me.
is it not also necessary for you to show mercy to your fellow servant,
ὡς κἀγὼ σὲ ἠλέησα;
as I also showed mercy to you?"
And his master was angry
and he delivered him to the tormentors/jailers
until he repaid everything that is owed.
In this same way, my heavenly father will do to you,
if each (one) of you do not forgive his brother
from your hearts."
partitive genitive - servants are associated with one another/same level (co-servants)
expresses urgency--> "all of it now!"
result with indicative following imperative
grieved because they knew the kindness that the king had shown him --> they understood the depth of the king's forgiveness (those outside looking in).
This is the ground to the whole thing --> It's all about Jesus, Jesus with us, Jesus in us, Jesus for us, Jesus is ours, and we are his.
