Main point summary
Be encouraged! We will be reunited with them and the Lord!
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep,
Brothers, we do not want you to be in the dark, without understanding, regarding those who have already died in the Lord,
g that you may not grieve as others do h who have no hope.
so that you will not be exceedingly sorrowful over their death in the same way others are whose loved ones die without Christ and in reality have no hope of eternal life.
For i since we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
And this is the reason why: because we believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus,
even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him j those who have fallen asleep.
then those who have died in the Lord will also be resurrected and return with Him.
For this we declare to you k by a word from the Lord, 1
The Lord has spoken concerning this, and we want you to know what He has said,
that l we who are alive, who are left until m the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
that when the Lord returns, all who are in the Lord and are still alive will not be taken up before those who have died.
For n the Lord himself will descend o from heaven p with a cry of command, with the voice of q an archangel, and r with the sound of the trumpet of God.
With a shout, an angelic voice, and with the blast of the trumpet of God, the Lord will come down from heaven.
And s the dead in Christ will rise first.
And at that time those who have died in the Lord will be the first to rise.
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be t caught up together with them u in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air,
Then those of us who are still alive when the Lord returns will rise and be reunited with them and with the Lord,
and so v we will always be with the Lord.
and so our hope will finally become sight: we will be with the Lord forever!
Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Because of this, these truths should be used to comfort one another.
Takeaway: Our separation from our loved ones who die in the Lord is only temporary. Not only will we be reunited with them one day, but more importantly we will be with our Lord and Savior forever!! It doesn't get any better than that. Those are truly encouraging and uplifting words!!!! We should be meditating on these truths now. Future study: Will be studying the book of James. I now see the importance of being able to restate the Scripture in my own words AFTER having gone through the steps of careful observation with author, recipients, purpose, key words, cross-references, etc. I have seen that restating it accurately in context shows my understanding of the text.
