Main point summary
Blessing comes through faithful resistance to sin, but death comes through a person's choice to gratify the desires of the flesh.
u Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial,
The person who stands firm in the face of trials and testing is blessed
for when he has stood the test
because when the time comes, as a result of his devoted commitment to God
he will receive v the crown of life,
he will be given the crown of life
w which God has promised to those who love him.
that God promised to all who persevere in seeking to live in loving obedience to him.
Let no one say
It should not be said by anyone,
when he is tempted,
when temptation comes,
“I am being tempted by God,”
that God is to blame for the temptation
for God cannot be tempted with evil,
because God isn't tempted by evil
and he himself tempts no one.
nor does he tempt anyone.
But each person is tempted
Rather a person falls into temptation
when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
when he indulges his innocent thoughts by giving them free rein
Then desire x when it has conceived
until legitimate feelings cross the line into ungodly motivations
gives birth to sin,
resulting in sinful actions
and y sin when it is fully grown
and when all control is lost
brings forth death.
the inevitable outcome is death.
It's so easy to deny responsibility for our sin, but we need to acknowledge that our own lack of self-control often leads us to cross the line from legitimate thoughts into sinful actions. We are to be intentionally self-controlled and sober-minded, renewing our minds, so that we are able to stand firm in the face of trials, and choose the steadfast life.
