What is a shepherd? A person whose job is to take care of sheep and move them from one place to another. So when say that God is my shepherd it means I acknowledge that God is the leader of my life and he direct me from the place of darkness to light. Also a shepherd provide for his sheep that means I will lack nothing because God is my shepherd. In this passage, it list what God did to his sheep and even do I will walk in a dark shadow/suffering God will provide my comfort( v.4d). Gods purpose in providing all this, is for me to have goodness and mercy and a dwelling place in the house of the Lord forever.
